The bathroom is considered the wettest room in the house with moisture from showers and water from sinks and toilets making its way on to the floor and walls. To help prevent moisture damage from shower enclosures the seams need to be waterproofed to help keep the water out.
Most of the time, a normal curtain liner will be made of thin transparent plastic. This thin transparent plastic in a way, might reduce the look of your shower curtain from the inside. Keeping this in mind, came the fabric shower curtains which are usually made of 100% polyester. These act like your normal shower curtains in the sense that you don't need a shower curtain once you have one of these fabric liners. They come in a huge variety of colors and are mostly always machine washable. These too, are water repellent and mildew resistant. The fabric liners are a better choice than the normal ones.
The supporting beams of a steam shower are typically made of aluminum. Aluminum is widely used because of it strength and light weight. The bathtub and shower trays that make up the bottom of many steam showers are typically constructed of a stainless steal frame. It is important that steam showers have both a sturdy base and strong supporting beams. This is a must when shopping for a steam shower. Beware of cheaper models that have plastic supports, these don't have nearly the strength of aluminum and the finish can be scratched off easily.
Step 2: Dump the curtain into the washing machine with 2 or 3 large towels. These towels are necessary as they act as scrubbers during the wash cycle. Add half a cup of detergent, half a cup of baking soda, and cold water, and wash the curtain on a gentle cycle. Using hot water to wash the curtain may conduce to melting of the curtain, so it's best to stick to cold water. Add a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle.
